The estate, formerly called podere Citernella, is named after the road that in ancient times connected the medieval town of Massa Marittima with the present-day village of Prata. The original central structure, now demolished, dates back to the late middle ages, whereas the other extensions may date back to the medicean period till the beginning of the last century. History has it that Giuseppe Garibaldi, on the run in 1849, stopped over in the neighbouring Maleotti holding, visiting the Citernella farm too. The Belvedere has been restored following closely the original architectural and historical design so that every guest has that pleasant feeling of friendly welcoming since his/her arrival.
